Judo - The Gentle Way

Kata Style Judo training in Wakefield

What is Judo?

Judo is a modern martial art and Olympic sport created in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano

It is a dynamic combat sport that requires both physical strength and mental discipline. From a standing position, it involves techniques that allow you to throw your opponent onto the ground. On the ground, it includes techniques that allow you to pin your opponent down, to control them or apply chokeholds or joint locks.

Who would benefit from learning Judo techniques?

Anyone who is looking to improve their confidence, their mental strength, their fitness levels, their physical strength, their balance, their coordination and their flexibility.

What are the benefits of judo training?

The throws, holds and avoidance techniques used in judo are an effective form of self-defence training. It also lowers your risk of sustaining injury in other sports as judo teaches you how to fall in a safe manner.

Because Judo training involves close contact between two judokas it helps you develop your communication skills and learn to work effectively with other people.
